I would like to share a story with you about my inspiration to curate Jewellery with intention.
When I was 26 years old I travelled to Dharamsala, India to meet the Dalai Lama. When I finally met him, he gave me a little red string and told me to tie it on my body while placing my intention on that which I desired the most. He then told me to never take it off and simply wait for it to fall off naturally.
As the days began to pass I realized the hidden Buddhist gem this little red string was teaching me. The practice of meditation is the practice of bringing thought back to the focus at hand. Thoughts are constantly running wild. The training is to bring the random thought stream back to sensation, back to the mantra, back to the candlelight, back to the visualization. This little red string was doing exactly that. Every time my eyes would meet the string, my thoughts would go back to the thing I had wished for. It was reminding me constantly because quite by accident my eyes kept coming into contact with it multiple times a day. My mind was constantly being reminded of the intention. It felt like the little red string was quietly motivating me to enact the right thoughts, the right words, the right action so as to make my dream come true.
The little red string finally unraveled and fell off around six months later. During the six months my thought stream got schooled into focusing on my desired intention. It was a wonderful way to retrain the mind to focus on the desire in the moment. The Dalai Lama obviously knew what he was doing.
When I tied the string on, I wished for enlightenment and when it eventually fell off, hey presto I wasn’t enlightened ha! So I placed a tattoo where the string had been. This would remind me for the rest of my life of my Buddhist teaching. Little did I know it planted the seed for the mission I would later embark on.”
